If you’re interested in seeing epic paddling on the big screen, now’s your chance – the 13 th annual Paddling Film Festival is just around the corner. This year’s festival, presented by Algonquin Outfitters, will be held at the Northern Lights Performing Arts Pavilion June 16 at 7:30 p.m.
The festival is an international film tour showcasing some of the world’s best paddling films, featuring sports such as sea kayaking and canoeing. It was created in 2006 and screens in more than 120 cities around the world. Algonquin Outfitters has been hosting the festival for more than a decade at the Algonquin Theatre in Huntsville and began hosting the festival in Haliburton last year.
“It's a great way for us and our friends to celebrate the beginning of the paddling season. It gets us thinking about all of the up-and-coming paddling adventures ahead,” said Algonquin Outfitters’ marketing director Randy Mitson. “Paddling's in our blood … it's something that we do every day and something that we love sharing with new people.”
This year’s festival will feature all kinds of unique and exciting paddling action: sea kayakers exploring remote coastlines, northern river canoe expeditions, international river travel films, kayak fishing battles, environmental documentaries and shorter films capturing the lighter side of the paddling lifestyle.
“It's all about sharing experiences, fostering dreams and providing ways to make them happen. Dreaming is just the first step to great adventures near and far,” said Mitson.
