Changing the name because younger voters don't know what a Reeve is? They also don't know what MP or MPP stands for, who the Premier is, what party Justin Trudeau belongs to etc.etc.etc. Mayor just sounds more impressive, even American. AH Reeve - put your head up, shoulders back, look them in the eye, say your position is ' the Reeve' and be proud of it!

Amalgamation of the four county municipalities should come first. Then it will be big enough to justify the change from reeve to mayor

Yes, sounds like AH Reeve feels inadequate in the 'old boys club'. Wants to be part of the A Listers. Sad. So much for heritage.

I'm sorry if 'you feel' it doesn't carry the same pomp and circumstance. (splendid ceremony with celebration and fuss.)

Yes, typical politician seeking glory

Ontario's only Mayor of 1/3 of one village( the top part of Carnarvon) and 1/2 of another (Dorset).

Maybe the opposite will be the result. Rather than feeling 'less important' than a Mayor when at a meeting with other districts, maybe the Mayor's of larger cities will chuckle at the 'little Mayor'

AH seems to have a proud history with it's museum and Heritage Days. Be proud of the historic title "Reeve" that goes with it! If young people don't understand it - educate them!

Yes the title of Mayor of one of the smallest townships in the province sounds ridiculous

Hopefully, when AH Council votes in July, the council reps have had time to talk to voters in their area. After all, their votes should be based on what taxpayers in their area's want and not just what the Reeve wants. Is that not what representation is about?

"I would just do it now" seems like a bullheaded comment from AH Reeve. Do taxpayers not have any say in this? The title of Reeve is perfectly respectable given the small size of this township. The comparable's that have adopted the title of 'mayor' such as Lake of Bays, Bancroft, etc. are much larger populated areas. It seems that AH Reeve needs a confidence boost with the 'Mayor' title. Let our larger municipalitie and township such as Dysart and Minden Hills be the leaders in this change. AH can follow when it's appropriate. Seems like Reeve Moffat wants to just bulldoze this thru. What's the rush? "Algonquin Highlands leads the way once again." Wow - need a pat on the back too?

Before AH council votes on this, shouldn't there be public input? I agree with the other comments. Seems like Reeve Moffat needs some confidence that this title will give her when she meets with others.

I chuckled when I first read this article. I always thought that it would actually make more sense economically for us, the taxpayers, to have Algonquin Highlands amalgamate with Minden Hills. That way overhead/operating costs would be reduced and operations could be more efficient. Reeve sounds perfectly suitable for such a small township within the County. When I hear Mayor, I think of a city or larger town and a much higher populated place. I'm just hoping there is no expense involved in all this for us taxpayers. No legal fees, wasted township employee hours, etc. Seems quite frivolous! Shouldn't there be more public input or consultation?

Mayor is a term used for a person that is elected by the people of a city, town, or municipality. A Reeve is a person elected by the people of a township or village. Seems strange that the Reeve of our smallest township in the county (population 2351 in 2016) needs the pomp and circumstance of the role.

Sorry, this is a completely pointless waste of council's time and money. It all reads like the point is to make the Reeve feel "more important". There are far more pressing issues in AH...health care and internet access, to name two.
